SU Carburettor Restoration
SU Carburettor Restoration
Whether you're bringing a classic British car back to life or returning a tired SU carburettor to factory condition, SU Specialists supplies every part you need for a complete, correct restoration. We stock the full OEM-specification range — the same parts fitted to your car when it left the factory.
What Does a Full SU Carburettor Restoration Involve?
A proper SU carburettor restoration goes beyond a basic service. It addresses every wear point and replaces all consumable and semi-consumable components so the carburettor performs as new. A typical full restoration covers:
- Jet and needle: The jet wears oval over time and the needle wears its tip. Both must be replaced together for correct mixture control.
- Piston and suction chamber: Corrosion, wear or impact damage to the piston or chamber causes erratic cold-starting and mixture hunting. Replace as a matched pair where possible.
- Float chamber and float: Worn float valves cause flooding and fuel leaks. Correct float height is critical to fuel level and therefore mixture.
- All gaskets and O-rings: Every rubber seal deteriorates with heat and age. A restoration kit replaces them all in one pass.
- Throttle spindle bushes: Air drawn past a worn spindle leans the mixture unpredictably and cannot be compensated by mixture adjustment.
- Damper and damper oil: The hydraulic damper controls piston lift rate. Wrong oil viscosity or a worn damper causes flat spots on acceleration.
Major Rebuild Kits — The Right Starting Point
Our Major Repair Kits provide all the gaskets, O-rings, seals and consumable parts for a full carburettor restoration in a single, correctly specified pack. Each kit is matched to your specific carburettor model — HS2, HS4, HS6, HIF38, HIF44 and more — so every part fits first time.

Why Use OEM-Specification Parts for Restoration?
The SU carburettor was designed around exact tolerances — needle profiles are specified in thousandths of an inch. Aftermarket substitutes rarely meet these tolerances and commonly cause the symptoms they were bought to cure. All parts supplied by SU Specialists are manufactured to the original OEM specification by the sole authorised producer of genuine SU parts, ensuring your restoration is correct and lasting.
