Which SU Carburettor Parts Fit My Classic Car?

One of the most common questions we get asked is: "Which SU carburettor parts do I need for my car?" The answer depends on the exact carburettor specification fitted, which can change within the same model by year, market and engine. This guide lists the typical original SU fitments for popular British classics, taken from the SU factory application listings.

Austin-Healey

  • 100 (BN1/BN2): Twin H4.
  • 100-6: Twin H4 on the BN4, twin HD6 on the later BN6.
  • 3000 Mk I (BN7/BT7): Twin HD6; triple HS4 on the 1961–62 cars.
  • 3000 Mk II (BJ7): Twin HS6.
  • 3000 Mk III (BJ8): Twin HD8.
  • Sprite Mk I 'Frogeye': Twin H1.
  • Sprite Mk II–IV: Twin HS2.

MG

  • TC / TD: Twin H2. TF: Twin H4.
  • MGA 1500 / 1600: Twin H4. MGA Twin Cam: Twin H6.

  • Mini Cooper and Cooper S: Twin HS2.
  • Mini 1.3 (1992 on): Single HIF38.
  • Morris Minor 1000: Single H2, then single HS2 from 1960.
  • 1100 / 1300: Single HS2 or HS4; twin HS2 on the 1300 GT and MG/Riley versions.
  • 1800 / Landcrab: Single HS6.
  • Metro 1.0: Single HIF38. Metro 1.3: Single HIF44.
  • Allegro 1100 / 1300: Single HS4; HIF44 on the 1300 from 1980.
  • Maxi 1500 / 1750: Single HS6; twin HS6 on the 1750 HL.
  • Marina 1.3: Single HS4. Marina 1.8: Single HS6; twin HS4 on the TC.
  • Princess 1700 / 2000: Single HIF6. Princess 2200: Twin HIF6.

  • P4: Single or twin H4, H6, HD6 or HD8 depending on model.
  • P5 3 Litre: Single HD8.
  • P6 2000: Single HS6. P6 2000 TC: Twin HS8.
  • P5B / P6 3500 V8: Twin HS6, later twin HIF6.
  • SD1 2300 / 2600: Twin HS6, then twin HIF44 from 1982.

Land Rover

  • 109 six-cylinder (2.6): Single HD6 or HD8.
  • V8 Land Rover, Range Rover and Discovery (1986 on): Twin HIF44.
